My grandmother, Arek, taught me the beauty of being a woman. She carried grace in her presence and a quiet power that could command a room without a word. She lived unapologetically — breaking rules, savoring joy, and making every day count. To us, her grandchildren, she was our queen, the matriarch who somehow made each of us feel like her favorite.

The more I reflect on her, the more I see her within me. Someone once described me as independent, fierce, and a little wild but polished. I realized they had also described her. That is the inheritance of family: pieces of spirit, energy, and values passed down like heirlooms, carried forward in new ways. Through us, they live on.

For Arek, beauty was never superficial. She believed adornment could unlock something ethereal within you. A way of living with joy, fun, and self-expression. Jewelry was her language. Each time she saw me, she would study my pieces and delight in their details. Even now, when I design, I imagine her reaction. Some of the jewels I wear began as her own, reimagined through my lens. They are not just objects but living threads, binding her story to mine. That is the kind of connection I want others to feel — jewelry that carries memory, meaning, and the spirit of the woman who once wore it.

Family has always been my foundation, and I could not imagine creating something so personal without honouring the woman who inspired it all. Arek means “sun” in Armenian, and no word could suit her better. She radiated warmth in her smile, light in her presence, and strength in her spirit. Now, through every piece I create, her light continues to shine.
